Asbestos Surveying
By Jacqui Heap

There was a time when asbestos was freely used as a building material as people didn`t realise what a hazardous material it can be. This has led to numerous older properties being left with some form of asbestos within them and unless Asbestos Surveying is completed, building owners won`t know for sure. When left alone the asbestos is usually ok but when it is disturbed particles can be released into the atmosphere and people can breathe them in. Due to this new regulations were brought in for building owners and they now have to ensure they have an effective asbestos management programme in place if their buildings have asbestos materials within them. To establish whether this type of material is present, Asbestos Surveying can be conducted. This process can be carried out by an experienced company who can take samples of materials to see if they contain asbestos or not. Once it has been established that harmful materials are on the site an effective management system can then be implemented. It`s important for the Asbestos Surveying to take place initially before any action plan is put into place. Owners of buildings need to know the full extent of the problem before they begin to tackle it.
